Stylus proudly presents " A Tribute to VICFLICK (1937 -2024)" (10pting 370).

Vic has always been known for playing his Clifford Essex Paragon de luxe guitar on the first Bond movie and his original take of 'The James Bond Theme' can be found at track 16 on this 28 cut compilation, not a best of but going through his journey from 1960 to 1977. Vic was a member of the John Barry Seven for several rears. He also formed his own Vic Flick 7 for radio broadcasts which you will find on tracks 13-15. The first John Barry film score was 'Beat Girl' only ever released in mono and it's this theme that kicks off the CD. The BBC show 'Hit and Miss ' where a panel of judges decided the chances of new singles going up the pop charts was hosted by David Jacobs for many years. The theme tune is remembered for its formula of Vic's guitar and pizzicato strings. It was also employed in tracks such as 'Never let go' and 'The Menace'. Barry also covered The Ventures 'Walk Don't Run' and managed a credible #11 placing just 3 places behind the original version. Two tracks from the String beat LP are included, Vic's own composition 'Zapata' and a great version of the Pat Boone hit 'Moody River' also hiding the talents of Ted Taylor on clavioline. There was one oddity where Vic plays with Bob Miller & the Millermen on 'Troubleshooter'. We have  included four tracks not released at the time, probably because other tracks were so good. There is time for an update on the song 'Tit Willow' which was used for the Cool Mikado album. A special recording at Abbey Road with the George Martin Orchestra resulted in a worthy version of The Beatles 'This Boy' but known as 'Ringo's Theme'.

Moving forward to the mid-sixties, a collaboration with Big Jim Sullivan resulted in a superb B side for the group Mood Mosaic. By 1968 Vic was going solo for an album known as 'West of Windward' (tracks 22-24). As The Vic Flick Sound he recorded two singles for Chapter One Records in 1970/71 going back to the guitar sound for a while and then a brief collaboration with Apollo 100. The final track from the TV advertised  'Strictly Instrumental -20 all gold instrumental hits in 177saw an excellent cover of Duane Eddy's 'Because They're Young' recorded at Olympic Studios in London. There are a lot more tracks to explore too.
