Stylus Music proudly presents "A Tribute to JUDD PROCTOR (1931-2020)" 10pting 371
Here we have a second Judd Proctor CD from Stylus.
This time we look at the career of guitarist Judd Proctor whose absolute zenith was his recording of the theme from the Edgar Wallace thriller 'Backfire' during 1962. All Judd's six singles are included.
Judd was considered to have the fastest left hand in the business and was always working from the 50s onwards, mostly in big bands. Before to signing to Parlophone in 1961 he was involved with arranger Ian Frazer in the '50 Fingers...5 Guitars' sessions for Decca. Working alongside Eric Ford, Don Sandford, Terry Walsh and Alan Weighell was a great platform for his skills. Four of the tracks from that Decca LP are included as tracks 27-30 on this disc. It was a pity that Judd never realised a hit single, his solo 45s for Parlophone demonstrate his writing skills as well as his playing. The B side of his debut 'The Plainsman' was a superb piece of Western style guitar written by Judd as was the flip of 'Nola' known as 'Speakeasy'. Judd wasn't afraid to tackle the classics such as his reading of 'Rondo alla turk' plus superb twelve string work on 'Boots'.
Judd's debut LP for Morgan in 1968 is included in its entirety with its more mellow vibe but enticing guitar melodies. The album was reissued in 1970 by the obscure Gemini label.
I am sure guitar fans everywhere will welcome this release,
