Stylus Music proudly presents  "Hole In The Hall- The Packers Plus a tribute to Steve Cropper" (10PTING 375)

The Packers were an American soul band formed by tenor player Packy Axton. This is its first CD outing and other band members including Steve Cropper, Booker T, Al Jackson Jr and Leon Haywood. In fact due to Steve’s sad departure just prior to Christmas this album is also a tribute to him as he plays on around 80% tracks here.

The Packers 45 Hole in the wall made the top 5 in the RnB charts in  ’65 and a year or so later the album did almost as well. In the UK the album appeared on the Soul City label during ’69 we also feature another album from Soul City by organist Billy Preston, this one was cut in ’63.

The rest of the Cd includes rare singles cuts from The Mar-Keys, Booker T & The MGs and an  extremely scarce 45 by The Van-Dells called ‘Slumber Party’. There is a late 60s 45 from Cropper called ‘Crop Dustin’’  and a track from his album 'With a Little Help from my Friends' also issued as a 45 in the UK.and a couple of discs cut as a trio known as Washrag. To end the disc are 3 cuts in mono from the original Packers LP, the Soul City release being in stereo only.

For sure there are some interesting titles here rarely compiled to CD and well worth a spin or two.
