Occasionally one comes across a record one doesn’t expect all that much from at first, but which then turns out to be completely spellbinding. And for me this CD is one such! I must add that not everybody will agree with this assessment. Those who regard Shadows-style music their be-all and end-all may well fail to comprehend what I see in this record, as will those who prefer an instantly recognizable personal style or sound to dominate a record. They will fail to find this here. Warren Bennett’s solo album offers a rich selection of styles and sounds, different voices on the vocals and a veritable wealth of musical variety. That may initially let the record appear disparate to the casual listener, but it really confers on the CD a rare, nay unique breadth of effect and impressiveness. There are some “hooks” that reappear on several tracks, and they then remind the listener of the previous songs: the ringing of an old telephone or the siren of a panda car are such hooks. One cannot say, however, that the reasons for the re-emergence of those sounds are easily discovered. I truly love and admire this record, and I do not say that too often in reviews! May those who cannot share my enthusiasm generously forgive my rhapsodizing; perhaps all they need to see my point is listen to Warren’s CD a few more times…Review by Dr Jochen Bartsch  2013
